Dr Nap Cheung

Dr Nap Cheung is originally from Mauritius.  He came to the United Kingdom to study medicine and graduated form the University of Sheffield in 1985.  After completing his general medical training at King’s College Hospital, he went to Birmingham to start his specialist training in rheumatology.  He then went on to spend a couple of years or so at the Staffordshire Rheumatology Centre doing clinical research before returning to London in 1996 to join the prestigious rheumatology unit at Guy’s Hospital.  Dr Cheung was awarded a doctorate of medicine in 2001 for his thesis based on his work looking at the process of enzymatic joint destruction in rheumatoid arthritis.  In 2004 he was made a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians.

Dr Cheung was appointed Consultant Rheumatologist at Queen Mary’s Sidcup in 1999.  He has built on existing services and provides specialist clinics such as inflammatory arthritis, back pain, lupus and ‘One Stop’ clinic for soft tissue rheumatism.  He has special skills in pain management and he performs suprascapular nerve block for intractable shoulder pain and lumbar epidural injection for sciatica.

Dr Cheung participates in multi-centre clinical research.  He is also College Tutor and has responsibility for delivery of medical education for trainees.
